Cornerstone International School started in August 2008 accepting only preschoolers. In 2010, we have expanded to cater to primary kids, 6-13 years old. Our Primary Department exposes pupils with many opportunities with a strong emphasis on the 3 basic skills-Reading, Writing and Arithmetic (3Rs). We have also good selections of Scholastic books on Social Studies, Science, Computers and Literature. Primary pupils will also use Technology to complement their learning and research through the world wide web.
Our teachers and staff are dedicated to helping pupils develop to their full potentials. Our curriculum is carefully selected to conform to international standards. Textbooks are thoroughly chosen to expand children’s understanding and curiosity on diverse subjects. Our library has a good collection of books. Pupils are encouraged to read books regularly to help develop their love and interest in learning.
Our Pre-School Department uses CREATIVE and Values-Based Curricula as our models in helping young kids develop. They explore various subjects such as: Good Morale Values, Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, the Arts, Technology (Computers) and Sports.
By incorporating and understanding these children’s needs, there are different developmental domains of children which all relate to each other that we help develop:
- Concerning the growth and development of both gross and fine motor control.
- Perception and sensory development – How a child functions using the senses and the ability to process the information gained.
- Communication and language development – Using visual and sound stimuli, especially in the acquisition of language, also in the exchange of thoughts and feelings.
- Cognitive development – Concerning how the individual thinks and reacts.
- Emotional Development – Concerning children’s increasing awareness and control of their feelings and how they react to these feelings in a given situation.
- Social Development – Concerning the child’s identity, their relationship with others, and understanding their place within a social environment.
Further, manipulative toys are provided to help focus on young children’s readiness skills. This in turn will prepare them for academic subjects in grade school. Our pre-school is divided into stages, Toddlers for 2-3 years old, Pre-Kindergarten for 3-4 years old, Kindergarten has 2 levels – Kinder 4 and Kinder 5, for 4-5 years old respectively.
Kinder 4 focuses on vocabulary-building activities and exercises that are designed to stimulate visual and auditory discrimination.
Kinder 5 offers hands-on, interactive learning to prepare your child for First Grade. We help children refine their reading skills with our phonics-based Explode the Code books and continuous on until Primary level (until Book 8.)
